The Palace Opera & Ballet

The Palace Opera & Ballet 2010 Season includes a rich and diverse season of 13 performances in high definition surround sound. It is a unique program which gives Australian audiences the opportunity to experience the spectacular opulence, talent and artistry of some of the world’s best opera, ballet and theatre companies - from the comfort of their local cinema. Operas and ballets from the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden, the Glyndebourne Festival, the King's College and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre are captured in high definition and 5.1 digital surround sound. Complete with intermissions, you can enjoy the innate qualities of a classical operatic experience with the comfort of lounge seating and a top line of concessions at a cinema price.

For four days only, L’Elisir D’Amore (The Elixir of Love) filmed live in HD direct from the Glyndebourne Opera will screen at Palace Cinemas for Australian audiences. Donizetti’s most performed opera, L’Elisir D’Amore from the 2009 Glyndebourne Opera production will screen in eleven venues across Australia on May 21, 22, 23 and 26 at selected Palace Cinemas. L’Elisir D’Amore is set in an idyllic vision of a Southern Italian village square and tells of the romantic rivalry between the penniless Nemorino (Peter Auty) and the bumptious Sergeant Belcore (Massimo Cavaletti) for the love of the beautiful, bookish Adina (Adriana Kucerova). Reviewed with four stars, Tim Ashley of The Guardian, UK argues that L’Elisir D’Amore is “musically…wonderful”.
