The off her trolley dolly

Bonkers stewardess Pam Ann is back with a new TV show on The Comedy Channel. Peter Hackney fastens his seatbelt.

Caroline Reid, the woman better known as comedian airline hostess Pam Ann, first set foot on a plane at the age of eight when her mother sent her from Melbourne to Sydney to stay with relatives.
“She’d ship me out on TAA each year or so she could get some fucking peace!” she says.
Little did Reid know back then where airlines would end up taking her.
As millions of people in Britain (where Reid is a bona fide A-lister) know, it led her to superstardom as Pam Ann: a glamorous, ’60s-styled, foul-mouthed airline hostess who loves to take the mickey out of economy passengers and hapless audience members at her shows (especially when their clothes aren’t up to Pam’s Pucci standards).

Chasing Rainbows: What Do Gay Travelers Want?

Now that pink is the new green, gay and lesbian travelers, whose vacation spending boosts the U.S. economy by an estimated $70 billion a year, are being courted as never before. Even New York City, "birthplace of the gay rights movement" and the niche's undisputed grande dame, is out on the street, shakin' her booty with the competition.

Not everyone is amused. When state legislators got wind last summer that South Carolina was being touted abroad as a gay-friendly destination, an international flap ensued and the offending ads were pulled. "Nothing like Southern hospitality," commented Gay Agenda. More recently, Congressman Steve King warned Iowans their state could become a "gay marriage Mecca" if they don't watch out. (Best comeback, from a Political Ticker reader: "Oh my! We can't have gays come to Iowa. That might lead to . . . dancing!!")

Possibly more disturbing, from a marketing perspective, is the growing suspicion that non-heterosexual travelers are an awful lot like heterosexual ones.

Govt. to recognise same-sex marriges

Australia is set to recognise same-sex marriages from July this year – with a catch.
From July 1, the Federal Government will legally recognise same-sex marriages in cases where the marriage was originally registered between a male and a female, and one partner subsequently transitions to the same gender as their partner.
The change, brought about by the Same Sex Relationships (Equal Treatment in Commonwealth Laws) Act 2008, means that after from July 1, there will be legally-recognised same-sex marriages in Australia.
Previously, couples in this situation faced ‘state-enforced divorce’ as their marriages were dissolved when one partner transitioned.

Amazon glitch a prank?

Since Friday gay and lesbian books were disappearing from popular online retailer Amazon, causing a big online outrage over the weekend. But now it looks like the so-called glitch by Amazon officials could well have been a hacker attack.

A quick recap: on Friday several gay-themed books started disappearing from the Amazon sales rankings. The books were still available on the site but could not appear on best-seller lists. The following day several more disappeared.

Twitter and social network users noticed the disappearance and started accusing the retailer of censorship and homophobia.

Brisbane Pride Festival: Saturday 13 June 2009

Brisbane Pride Festival has announced the theme for 2009, ONE COMMUNITY.  Following on from last years the of FREEDOM, ONE COMMUNITY is designed to raise the profile of the many vital community groups in Brisbane and surrounds that work to supporting their community in so many ways.
The 2009 festival will focus on bringing the people who volunteer their time to the forefront and recognising their contributions.  Without these community groups, so many would be lost.  From the youth having no idea where to turn picking up the phone and calling Open Doors, to the parents struggling to come to terms with their daughter coming out to them, contacting PFLAG, from the gay man calling GLWA in a time of crisis to the person isolated by circumstance, tuning to Dykes on Mykes and discovering they are not alone.
